Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) announces an open position as a researcher in the research group Agricultural Sector Economics. The position is primarily linked to externally funded projects related to economic research concerning preparedness, resilience, and innovation in Swedish agriculture and how agriculture can adapt to extreme weather events.

About the job

You will (1) actively contribute to the group's research themes, particularly a theme related to agricultural preparedness, resilience, innovation, and climate adaptation, (2) independently develop research leading to publications in high-quality scientific journals, (3) apply for external research funding, and (4) participate in the supervision of doctoral students and students. You may also be expected to teach at all levels within the group's research areas.

Your background

Applicants should have a background in agricultural economics or a related field. We are looking for a highly motivated and doctoral-level employee with several years of experience in independent scientific work after obtaining their doctorate: (1) who can work both independently and in a team, is used to taking their own initiatives; (2) who has documented experience in independent scientific work; (3) has documented research profiling related to agricultural resilience; (4) has documented experience in interdisciplinary work; (5) has documented ability to seek and obtain external research funding as the main applicant; (6) has several years of experience in research based on large datasets and econometric methods. Excellent knowledge of English (both spoken and written) is essential. Knowledge of European agriculture and international experience is an advantage. Personal suitability will be given great importance.

About us

SLU is a world-leading university in the life and environmental sciences, with a vision to play a key role in the development of sustainable living, based on science and education. In this context, the Department of Economics serves as an important platform for research and education in business and national economics. Teaching is centered around educational programs at the bachelor's and master's levels in business and national economics. Research is based on four thematic areas, with agricultural sector economics being one of them.

In the research group Agricultural Sector Economics, we are interested in production economics, consumer economics, agricultural and food policy, and international trade. Our areas of interest contribute to the scientific literature in agricultural sector economics and related subjects. We have well-developed interdisciplinary as well as cross- and multi-disciplinary collaborations, e.g., with colleagues in plant ecology, technology, animal health, and veterinary epidemiology. The group currently consists of about 20 people, including several doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, researchers, a university lecturer, a communicator, and a professor.
